WHAT IT IS
Euphoria at speed
Happy hardcore developed from the breakbeat-hardcore family tree and became increasingly fast and melodic through the 1990s. Pianos, vocals and bright hooks sat over forceful kicks, breaks and bass.
There is no single exact BPM or production formula. The common range is a guide, and the boundaries with breakbeat hardcore, bouncy techno and later UK hardcore remain porous.
